UK & Australia
A Chartered Tax Adviser for the UK side of a move to or from Australia
UK tax returns, residency and pension advice for people moving to Australia, living there with UK income, or moving to the UK from Australia. Fixed fees, agreed upfront.
The Short Answer
Horizon UK Tax Solutions is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) practice that handles the UK tax side of a life split between Britain and Australia: British people moving to Australia, people already there with UK rent, pensions or property, and anyone moving to the UK from Australia. Three things decide most of the bill. Your UK residence ends when the Statutory Residence Test says so, not when you board the plane. UK rental income stays taxable in the UK after you leave. And a UK pension moved into Australian superannuation outside HMRC's QROPS rules can trigger a 25% Overseas Transfer Charge. We settle those first.
The traps are specific. Split-year treatment is not automatic: it is claimed on the SA109 residence pages, which HMRC's free online service cannot file. Sell a UK home after you leave and the disposal must be reported within 60 days of completion, even if no tax is due. A pension transfer needs checking on the UK side before anyone signs. Coming the other way, Australian super is generally not a UK-recognised pension, so the 25% tax-free lump sum does not carry across automatically. We handle each of these on the UK side and say plainly where an Australian agent is needed.
Everything is handled remotely from London, with year-round support and direct access to the adviser, so the time difference is a scheduling detail, not a barrier. Fees are fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts: non-resident and expat tax returns are £550 fixed, personal returns start from £350, and advisory work such as a pre-departure or pre-arrival review is quoted as a fixed fee upfront. Never an hourly rate. You deal with the founder, a CTA with over 10 years of experience including 7 at a Big Four firm, and the practice is rated 5.0 on Google. What We Do
Handled for you, end to end
- Statutory Residence Test modelling before you leave, then the departure-year return with the SA109 pages and split-year claim HMRC's free service cannot file
- Non-resident landlord returns for UK property you keep behind, plus the NRL1 application so rent reaches you without tax deducted at source
- Capital Gains Tax on a UK home sold from Australia, including the 60-day report and payment that applies even when the figure is nil
- UK pensions once you live in Australia: the treaty position, the paperwork for gross payment, and QROPS checks before any transfer
- Arrival-year planning for people moving to the UK from Australia: arrival date, the 4-year FIG regime claim, and timing superannuation drawdowns before you commit
- The UK and cross-border lead, coordinating a vetted Australian tax agent wherever filing or advice has to happen in Australia
