UK and France
A Chartered Tax Adviser for the UK to France move, in either direction
UK tax returns, residency and treaty advice for people moving to France, living there with UK income or pensions, or moving to the UK from France. Fixed fees.
The Short Answer
Horizon UK Tax Solutions is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) practice that handles the UK side of a move between Britain and France: the departure-year return, the residency position and the treaty claims that follow. Three things decide most of the UK tax on this corridor. The Statutory Residence Test fixes when you stop being UK resident, not the date on your ferry ticket. UK rent and UK property gains stay within UK tax after you leave. And once you are French resident, ordinary UK pensions are generally taxable only in France under Article 18 of the treaty, while government-service pensions normally stay UK-taxable under Article 19(2).
A UK home sold from France must be reported and paid within 60 days, and the treaty does not relieve that gain. UK rent is paid with 20% deducted unless HMRC approves an NRL1 application. Return within five years, having been solely UK resident in four or more of the seven tax years before leaving, and certain income and gains realised abroad are taxed in the year you return. For arrivals from France it runs the other way: the arrival-year split under Cases 4 to 8, and whether at least ten consecutive years of non-residence qualify you for the four-year FIG regime. We tell you which apply before you commit.
Everything is handled remotely from London, with direct access to the adviser and year-round support. Fees are fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts: a non-resident or expat tax return is £550, personal returns start from £350 and complex returns from £750, and advisory work such as a departure plan or a pension treaty claim is a fixed fee quoted upfront. Never an hourly rate. Horizon leads on the UK and cross-border position and coordinates vetted French specialists where French filing or advice is needed; we do not prepare French returns. The practice is rated 5.0 on Google from 19 reviews. Start with the free 30-minute clarity call.
What We Do
Handled for you, end to end
- Departure-year Self Assessment return with the SA109 residence pages and the split-year claim, which HMRC's free online service cannot file
- NRL1 application so your UK rent is paid without the 20% deduction, then the annual non-resident landlord return at £550 fixed
- The 60-day Capital Gains Tax report when you sell UK residential property from France, including the 5 April 2015 rebasing for long-held homes
- Pension treaty position under Articles 18 and 19(2) of the UK-France treaty, including the NT code application so pensions that become France-taxable are paid gross
- Arrival-year planning for people moving to the UK from France: the Statutory Residence Test, split-year Cases 4 to 8 and FIG regime eligibility
- Departure timing around the five-year temporary non-residence rule, form P85 where it applies, and coordination with a vetted French adviser for the French side
