The Short Answer

Horizon UK Tax Solutions is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) practice that handles the UK tax side of a move to Oman, a life already in Oman, or a move to the UK from Oman: residence, returns and planning, all remotely. Oman levies no personal income tax today, so the UK rules decide most of what you pay. Once you are non-resident under the Statutory Residence Test the UK generally stops taxing your worldwide income, but UK rent, some UK pensions and gains on UK residential property stay within UK tax. Leaving cleanly and keeping those UK-source items in order is the work, and it is what we do.

Your departure year is split only if you meet a qualifying case and claim it on the SA109, which HMRC's free online service cannot file. UK rent stays taxable under the Non-Resident Landlord Scheme, with 20% withheld unless HMRC approves your NRL1. Sell a UK home and the Non-Resident Capital Gains Tax report falls due within 60 days of completion, even when nothing is owed, with any tax payable by the same date. Return within about five years and gains realised abroad can be taxed in your year of return. Oman has also legislated a 5% personal income tax on annual income above OMR 42,000 from 1 January 2028. We plan around all of it.

Working with us is simple. Everything is handled remotely, with year-round support and direct access to Jordan Onraet-Wells, who leads the practice and brings over 10 years of experience including 7 at a Big Four firm. Fees are fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts: non-resident and expat tax returns are £550, personal tax returns start from £350 and complex returns from £750, and advisory work is quoted as a fixed fee upfront. There is never an hourly rate. Horizon is rated 5.0 on Google from 19 reviews, with clients across six continents. Start with the free 30-minute clarity call.

What We Do

Handled for you, end to end

  • Departure planning and the departure-year return: form P85 or Self Assessment route, the split-year claim on the SA109, and timing against the five-year rule.
  • NRL1 application to receive UK rent gross, then the annual non-resident landlord return, with the UK personal allowance claimed where you keep your entitlement.
  • The 60-day Non-Resident Capital Gains Tax report when you sell UK residential property from Oman, including April 2015 rebasing where it helps.
  • Pension and treaty position under the UK-Oman double taxation agreement, including DT-Individual claims on UK-source pensions where relief applies.
  • Arrival-year planning if you move to the UK from Oman: the arriver split-year cases, the SA109 and the four-year FIG regime where you qualify.
  • Horizon leads on the UK and cross-border position and coordinates vetted local specialists wherever Oman filing or in-country advice has to happen.
