The Short Answer

Horizon UK Tax Solutions is a London Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) practice handling the UK tax side of a Qatar move: British people heading to Doha, anyone in Qatar with UK rent, property or pensions, and people coming back. Qatar levies no personal income tax on salaries, so the money is won or lost on the UK side. Three things decide it. Whether the Statutory Residence Test says you have left. Whether your split-year claim holds, since it can fail retrospectively if you do not stay non-resident for the following full tax year. And what the UK keeps taxing regardless: rent, UK property gains and, subject to the treaty, pensions.

The traps are specific. For anyone moving to work, full-time work abroad is usually the cleanest exit, and one extra UK day can flip the result. Selling UK property triggers a 60-day CGT report, separate from your annual return. Come back within five years, having been UK resident in at least four of the seven tax years before leaving, and the temporary non-residence rules can reach gains on assets held before departure and dividends from your own company while away. We set the day budget, build the departure-year return and its SA109 pages, handle the NRL1 and landlord return, and time any sale or return against the five-year clock.

Everything is handled remotely from London, with year-round support and direct access to the adviser rather than a rotating team. The practice is founder-led, with over 10 years of experience including 7 at a Big Four firm. It is rated 5.0 on Google (19 reviews) and works with clients across six continents. Fees are fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts: non-resident and expat returns are £550, and planning around a departure, a property sale or a return is quoted as a fixed fee upfront. Never an hourly rate. Start with the free 30-minute clarity call.

What We Do

Handled for you, end to end

  • Departure-year Self Assessment return with the SA109 residence pages and your split-year claim, usually under Case 1 or Case 3
  • Statutory Residence Test analysis and a first-year UK day budget for full-time work in Qatar, with the evidence trail HMRC can ask for
  • NRL1 application so your UK rent is paid without tax deducted, then the annual non-resident landlord return, claiming the personal allowance where still available
  • The 60-day Capital Gains Tax report on a UK property sale, sequenced against your departure date and the five-year clock
  • The UK-Qatar treaty position on your pensions before you draw anything, since private pensions and government-service pensions are treated differently
  • Arrival planning for moves to the UK from Qatar, including split-year arriver cases, with vetted local specialists coordinated where in-country advice is needed
