UK Tax Adviser for Cyprus
The UK tax side of a life in Cyprus, coming or going
UK tax returns, residency and pension planning for British people moving to Cyprus, living there already, or coming back, handled personally on fixed fees agreed before any work starts.
The Short Answer
Horizon UK Tax Solutions is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) practice handling the UK side of a move to Cyprus, a life there, or a move back: the departure-year return with the SA109 residence pages, non-resident landlord filings, the 60-day Capital Gains Tax report, and the pension treaty position. Three things decide most cases. Your UK residence ends only under the Statutory Residence Test, not when Cyprus issues a certificate. UK rent and property gains stay UK-taxable after you leave. And once you are Cyprus resident and no longer UK resident, the 2018 treaty makes private pensions taxable only in Cyprus, while government service pensions generally stay with HMRC.
The traps are specific. Cyprus non-dom status, with its up to 17 years of dividends and interest free of Special Defence Contribution, is worthless while you remain UK resident, and the 60-day rule does nothing to end UK residence. A leaver who keeps a UK home and family can end up dual resident and lose the treaty tie-break. Split-year treatment is not automatic, and if you were UK resident in at least four of the seven tax years before leaving, a return within five complete years can pull close company dividends back into UK tax. We plan the exit, and any return, around each of them before you sign a lease.
Everything is handled remotely, from London, for clients on six continents, with direct access to the adviser: a CTA with over 10 years of experience, including 7 at a Big Four firm. Fees are fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts. Non-resident and expat tax returns are £550. Personal returns start from £350 and complex returns from £750. Advisory work is a fixed fee quoted upfront, never hourly. Horizon leads on the UK and cross-border position and coordinates vetted local specialists wherever Cyprus filing or advice is needed. The practice is rated 5.0 on Google from 19 reviews. Start with the free 30-minute clarity call.
What We Do
Handled for you, end to end
- Departure-year Self Assessment return with the SA109 residence pages, claiming split-year treatment and reconciling any PAYE refund, alongside form P85.
- Dual residence mapping before you commit: the Statutory Residence Test against the 60-day rule and the treaty tie-breaker, coordinated with your Cyprus adviser.
- NRL1 applications so UK rent is paid without 20% deducted at source, plus the annual non-resident landlord return on property you keep.
- The 60-day Capital Gains Tax report, and payment of any tax due, when you sell UK property as a non-resident; the report is required even when no tax is due.
- Pension treaty claims: the NT code through form DT-Individual so UK private pensions are paid gross, and the government service pension exception.
- Return and arrival planning for anyone coming to the UK from Cyprus: the split-year arrival cases and the five-year temporary non-residence rules.

Retiring to Cyprus from the UK: Pensions and Tax (2026/27)

This guide covers the treaty, NT codes, the State Pension, UK property left behind and healthcare.
