The Short Answer

Horizon UK Tax Solutions is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) practice that handles the UK tax side for people moving to Ireland, people already living in Ireland with UK income, property or pensions, and people moving to the UK from Ireland. Three things decide most Irish cases. First, the Statutory Residence Test settles whether you are still UK resident; the Common Travel Area has no effect on tax residence. Second, UK rental income and UK property gains stay UK-taxable after you go, and pay for UK workdays can too. Third, under the UK-Ireland treaty most ordinary occupational and private pensions become taxable only in Ireland, your country of residence, while government-service pensions usually stay UK-taxable.

The traps are specific. Regular trips back from Dublin can rebuild UK days and ties, and someone with four ties can be UK resident again on as few as 16 days. Split-year treatment is not automatic: it turns on a specific SRT case, claimed on the SA109. Leave after at least four UK-resident years out of the previous seven, return within five, and the temporary non-residence rule can tax gains and certain income realised while away. Keep a UK let and your agent, or a tenant paying you more than £100 a week direct, deducts 20% unless HMRC has approved gross payment on form NRL1. Sell and the 60-day report is due even when no tax is owed. Horizon handles each of these, and plans disposals and return dates against the five-year clock.

Everything is handled remotely from London, with year-round support and direct access to the adviser, a CTA with over 10 years' experience including 7 at a Big Four firm. Fees are fixed and agreed in writing before work starts: £550 fixed for a non-resident or expat return, with advisory work quoted as a fixed fee upfront. The practice is rated 5.0 on Google from 19 reviews, with clients across six continents. Horizon leads on the UK and cross-border position and coordinates vetted local specialists wherever Irish filing or advice has to happen in-country. Start with the free 30-minute clarity call.

What We Do

Handled for you, end to end

  • Departure-year Self Assessment with the SA109 residence pages and the split-year claim, fixing the SRT case and the date the overseas part of the year begins
  • NRL1 applications and non-resident landlord returns for UK property you keep, so rent can be paid gross once HMRC approves, not net of the 20% deduction
  • The 60-day Capital Gains Tax report when you sell UK property from Ireland, filed even where reliefs mean no tax is due
  • UK pension treaty claims, so a pension taxable only in Ireland can be paid without UK deduction, with the Irish side confirmed locally
  • Arrival planning for moves from Ireland to the UK: arriver day counts, the arrival split-year cases and the four-year FIG regime
  • Form P85, departure timing and return dates planned against the five-year temporary non-residence rule, with vetted Irish specialists coordinated for in-country filing
